After winning two straight and reaching .500 on Saturday night, the Barnstormers dropped their Sunday afternoon matchup to the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-3.
Lancaster starter Tanner Peters could not find his groove. He allowed all five runs on five hits in just four innings, walking two and striking out one. The outing gave Peters his first loss of the season and dropped his record to 1-1.
Shortstop Ricky Hague hit a lead-off ground-rule double to start the contest. He would score during a wild pitch in Jeremy Barfield’s at-bat.
The Skeeters recorded four more runs in the third inning, including two home runs; a solo shot for catcher Wilfredo Rodriguez (his first of the season), and a three-run blast from first-baseman Travis Scott (his fourth on the year) that scored Brooks Conrad and Jeremy Barfield.
Sugar Land starter Sean Gallagher earned the win of the afternoon, pitching six innings (5 H, 3 BB, 4 K). Gallagher is now 3-3, and shut down Lancaster until the fifth inning. Mike McDade hit his first home run of the season to put Lancaster on the board, and catcher Chase Patterson scored on a Logan Schafer RBI double.
In the ninth inning, Sean Halton hit his third home run in two nights to cut Sugar Land’s lead to two.
Tomorrow, Sugar Land and Lancaster will conclude this four game series. A special time is scheduled for Memorial Day. First pitch is 2:00 pm at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Monday’s pitching matchup will be Lancaster’s Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2-3, 4.46 ERA in seven starts) vs Sugar Land’s Aaron Thompson (1-0, 2.92 ERA in two starts).
