Another massive trade is shaking up the top five picks of this year’s NFL Draft.
The Philadelphia Eagles, originally slated to pick eighth overall in the first round, are trading the #8 pick to the Cleveland Browns for the #2 overall pick.
In addition, the Browns will receive the Eagles third and fourth round picks this year, the Eagles first round pick in next year’s draft and Philly’s second round pick in 2018.
The Eagles will also receive Cleveland’s fourth round pick in next year’s draft.
The Browns were originally rumored to take either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, the top two quarterbacks in this year’s draft. Now at #8, the Browns appear to be ready to roll with Robert Griffin III as Cleveland’s starter. Both Wentz and Goff will likely be gone by the time the #8 pick rolls around.
It will also be interesting to see what the Eagles do with their pick. Most are assuming that they will either take a quarterback or running back Ezekiel Elliot from Ohio State. However, if the Eagles really want Elliot, it could have been possible for them to get him even at #8. Also, Philly signed quarterback Sam Bradford to a new contract this offseason and signed backup signal caller Chase Daniels, so they are not exactly desperate for a quarterback. Look for the Bradford trade rumors to begin.
Last week the Rams made a blockbuster trade to the Titans for the #1 overall pick (you can check out my post about that here). This is the second time in 40 years that the top two picks in the NFL draft have been traded.
The draft takes place next Thursday, April 28 at 8:00 pm. Just as the past few days have shown, expect the unexpected. Things are heating up.
