On Saturday evening MLB Network’s John Heyman broke the news on Twitter:
As it appears, Gallardo’s deal is for three years and $35 million, plus a fourth year option.
Gallardo now bolsters a rotation that was in desperate need of another dependable arm. It would appear that Gallardo will be joining the likes of Chris Tillman, Kevin Gausman, Ubaldo Jimenez and Miguel Gonzalez in the Orioles starting five.
Signging Gallardo means that the Orioles will lose the #14 pick in this year’s draft. With the Gallardo deal, the Orioles have now spent $249.8 million this offseason. That number is unprecedented based on the Orioles history.
There are also rumors out there that the Orioles are in talks with outfielder Dexter Fowler and his agent, per MASN’s Roch Kubatko:
With the Rangers last season, Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts.
